Once, the Aztecs only consumed roots and game. They couldn't get corn as it was hidden behind massive mountains.
The Aztecs asked the gods for help. They tried with force, tried to part the mountains, to lift them… nothing worked.
One day, a new god arrived ('Quetzalcoatl') and the Aztecs asked him as well. And he helped: He transformed into an ant who could easily make his way over the mountains where he found the corn. He took one grain between his teeth and returned to his people who could then plant corn.
Corn is an essential food ingredient for Mexicans: it’s the key to making the famous and delicious Tacos as well as many, many more local dishes.
